Most people don&#8217;t want more &#8220;play&#8221;\u2014they just want to get their work done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember50\">The truth is, <strong>fun doesn&#8217;t equal rewarding.<\/strong> To make work truly rewarding, we must look at what people actually crave: a sense of <strong>progress<\/strong>, meaningful <strong>feedback<\/strong>, and <strong>appreciation<\/strong> from another human being (not an AI or a machine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember51\">The &#8220;Magic WOW&#8221; Experiment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember52\">In 2019, we worked with the Malaysian Global Innovation and Creative Center (MaGIC) to achieve this. We built a simple app called &#8220;Magic WOW.&#8221; It had no points, no leaderboards, and no physical prizes. All it did was allow &#8220;MaGICians&#8221; to post a win, tag a colleague, and give a &#8220;Like.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ember53\">The results? Over <strong>50% participation<\/strong> for two years straight, with 50+ posts every single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ember54\">Why did it work?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It fits their culture:<\/strong> It jived with a young, energetic team that valued collaboration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It was cooperative, not competitive:<\/strong> Without leaderboards, the focus remained on encouragement rather than outranking others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It was genuine:<\/strong> Because there were no rewards, people posted from the heart.
